A Journal is a Girl’s Best friend

Do you ever just want to scream or get up and dance to your favorite songs? That’s why my privacy is valued, because I have the opportunity to express myself — free of judgment.

In most societies, we have discrimination on unparalleled levels where people are made to feel less than or less superior than their peers for unconscionable reasons such as skin color, religion, socioeconomic status, gender, sexuality, and simply the act of fully embracing yourself for you who really are, embracing your authenticity, and finding a place to become lost in your own reverie.

My sanctuary is my journal.

Somewhere in the details of my life explains my passion for writing, the desire I have to put words onto paper. The memories I have with a journal by my side go back as far as elementary school.

I started out as that traditional chubby kid on the schoolyard, and maybe that's because I never wanted to run. My goal was never to become the fastest kid on the playground, instead, I’d have my face buried in my journal, plastering the pages in my endless train of thoughts.

The love of writing that I possess comes from a place of comfortability. I’m able to express myself in ways a normal conversation can’t, and it gives me the freedom to think about my life and appreciate it. My journal has always taken me to new destinations and allowed me to do so with no restrictions. And that’s the beauty of a journal, it can be whatever you make it.

Sometimes when life seems to be throwing every obstacle in your path, a journal gives you the freedom to jot down thoughts with no further explanation, maybe it’s where you draw and create illustrations, or it can be the place you spend hours trying to understand the madness, to delegate the good from the bad.

My journal has gotten me through my worst days and brought me back to a place where I could think rationally. Writing takes your mind off of things, helps you get organized, achieves your goals, track progress and personal growth, gain self-confidence, improve writing and communication skills, reduce stress and anxiety, find inspiration, and strengthen memory.

So, not only does journaling stretch your IQ, but it also evokes mindfulness. There is a strong connection between happiness and finding equanimity. A key component of achieving self-actualization stems from organization and emotional intelligence, both an element of consistent journaling.

Journaling helps you to build good habits and ultimately aids in boosting memory and comprehension. There’s a unique relationship shared between the brain and the hand, and overall, journaling sparks creativity, which isn’t a bad thing during lock-down and in the age of COVID-19. Journaling is all about having a positive experience and helps the brain relieve daily anxieties.

Simply put, everyone should have a journal where they can express themselves, thoughts, and emotions freely without judgment from others.

This is your motivation!
